Mercury 90 hp 4 stroke fuel pump problems.

Jun 11, 2014. #1. I have a Mercury 6hp, 4 stroke. Fairly new, it is my second season. I'm having a problem that I have seen only twice. If it dries out of gas, it is hard to start. By 'dry out', I mean the carb is dry, fuel filter empty, and the fuel pump is likely dry also. It seems it takes way too many pulls (20?) to get gas moving again and ...Jun 12, 2017 · I bought a pontoon a few weeks ago with the 90 hp 4 stroke efi motor. It had been stored for about a year and it had ethanol fuel in it. I drained all of the fuel out of it, cleaned the fuel supply module out, flushed the lines, cleaned the injectors, all are spraying good, installed new fuel filters and replaced the spark plugs. They both show an in-line fuse in the schematic, but I can't find any fuse other than the 20 amp at the top left side of the engine. I've looked behind all the panels and still - - No fuse. The schematic indicates the pump is electric, but the pump has no electrical wiring connected to it that I can see. A new pump runs about $100.Feb 24, 2023. #1. My problem is that while in gear (F & R) @ idle, when I shift into Neutral, the engine stalls every time. It will immediately start with the ignition key while in Neutral.

The 4 strokes are also having a lot of problems with the float in the fuel supply module. Some it is necessary to replace the complete fuel module.

Take the drains out of the carbs, let it drain and put the plugs back in. Take the fuel lines loose at the carb side of the fuel pump and spray the powertune in the hoses to fill the carbs.

The primer bulb never really "gets hard" because the fuel pump is sucking (rather than pushing) fuel through the bulb so there is no pressure being built up in the bulb. If the bulb is getting sucked flat and such, then that is a better indication of a restriction in the fuel line.
